Opponent's Claims vs. Truth
Withheld police funds
Opponent: "I voted to fund our police"
Truth: Gay Donnell Willis gave no reason for her NO vote on the FY 2022-2023 Budget that restored Police Overtime Money. In spite of Donnell Willis" NO vote, the new budget passed with a 13-2 vote by the City Council. City Council members restored a $10 million cut in police overtime money they approved just two weeks earlier. Highlights of the approved budget, not approved by Donnell Willis, included hiring 250 more police officers, raising minimum pay and salaries for first responders, and hiring more than 60 new civilian staffers for the 911 call center.
